Cocker Spaniel Home Alone

I saw a cocker spaniel that needed to be adopted from a rescue organization today. I'm not sure how old she is, but they said she is house broken and has great manners.

I just can't stop thinking about her.

I've read stuff on-line that says cockers are not good dogs if you're going to have to leave them alone all day while you work.

My husband and I both work all day, so I just wanted to find out if we shouldn't get her because of that.

We have a 7 year old daughter and a 15 month old son. I really haven't even been considering getting a dog, but I just fell in love with this little cocker spaniel.

Please advise!

Leaving Cocker Spaniel Alone
by: Anonymous

We have just lost our beloved Coker. We are both retired, which was a good job because she wouldn't be left for a minute, but if we did we would come home to an awful mess plus she would get herself into a right state, even if left for an hour.

I Leave My Cocker
by: Anonymous

We adopted a cocker who we were told was neglected on a balcony a lot of the time. Whenever my husband or I leave our cocker for even a few minutes, when we return she whines in joy and grabs a ball to play. Ironically enough though she has no issues with being left alone all day.

She is quiet when we leave and excited when we get home, but we haven't heard or seen of any other issues while we are away.

We leave her from 7:40am-4:45pm.

Hope this helps

Hi, I have a cocker spaniel and work but do visit home every lunch time to see her. I also take her for a hour walk before work and after. She is then glad of the rest.

I didn't leave mine straight away, I weaned her into it from a young age. I.e. half days at work which used up all my leave.

She is left with a very comfortable bed, plenty of water, heating on in the winter, light (she hates the dark) and a radio to keep her company and break the silence.

Hope that helps, mine is a wonderful dog but they do need regular grooming, hair cuts, brushing of teeth and cleaning of ears to avoid infections.

They are very intelligent and easy to train with the right techniques, plenty of time and love are required. Mine loves human company but is very loyal to me. She's also sensitive which is a rare quality in a dog but I believe this is due to her brain capacity.

She loves long distance walks and they keep her very happy. No excuse after a long day at work, come rain or shine we are out walking two hours a day over a morning and eveing walk.
