What's The Best Sized Collar For My Puppy?
Hello,
I'm getting a cocker spaniel puppy in about 4 weeks. She will be 10 weeks when we pick her up. I was just wondering if you could help me with what size collar she would need and what type?
Thanks

Hello,
I would check with the breeder first as your puppy may already have a little collar, or your breeder may be planning to supply you with a collar and lead as part of your 'package'. I know ours did.
If not, take a trip to your local pet store and ask for a puppy collar, even better if they have specific collars for Cocker Spaniel puppies!
The collar should be fairly thin and probably be no more than around 6 - 8 inches, and it should be adjustable. A well-fitted collar should allow you to comfortably slide two fingers between the collar and your puppy's neck.
I don't recommend leather as it can shrink when wet. Instead, take a look at the adjustable nylon collars which can be easily washed if necessary.
I'm sure you're aware that puppy necks are very delicate, so don't place any real pressure here and never jerk a puppy by a collar or lead as it can cause serious injury to the neck.
When you're ready to take your puppy out for walks on his lead, you may find this article on leash training very useful.
Good luck and enjoy your new puppy when she arrives!
